Soda Bread

No Irish luck needed—just four simple ingredients for the perfect Soda Bread!

Ingredients
450g Allinson’s country grain bread flour
2 tsp salt
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
150ml buttermilk or natural yoghurt
150ml water

Method

Preheat the oven to 180C

In a bowl, mix the flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda.

In a jug, mix the buttermilk with the water and stir this into the flour to form a soft dough.
Knead the dough until smooth and then shape into a ball, cupping underneath until rounded.
Put on a lined baking sheet and sprinkle with a good dusting of flour.
Cut the dough a ¼” deep across the top, to form four to eight segments.
Bake in the oven for 30 mins, until cooked and hollow sounding when tapped on the bottom.

Leave to cool.
